To the Honorable Board:

 

I hereby request, subject to the approval of your Honorable Board, an appropriation in the amount of eight thousand dollars ($80,000.00) for the purchase of new radio equipment to comply with the FCC mandate that all radio systems operate on a narrow band frequency by January 1, 2013. 

 

Additionally, I respectfully request an authorization for the City Treasurer to borrow $80,000.00 to meet said appropriation.

This expense is being bonded, for a short term, to take advantage of the current low interest rates. Chief Kelleher spoke about the FCC mandates regarding narrow band frequencies and told the members that there may be some grant money that could be used to help pay for the needed new equipment. Additional upgrades to the infrastructure will be needed next year at a cost of about $70,000.
