That this Board of Aldermen strongly urges Federal Realty Investment Trust to employ union labor for all aspects of construction at Assembly Square and to give preference to qualified Somerville residents when hiring for all construction work performed at Assembly Square.

Alderman White discussed the importance of union labor at Assembly Square. Resident Rand Wilson was sponsored and spoke about the developer at Assembly Square not committing to union labor. He explained that local people should have job and apprentice opportunities, and union labor is the best way to do this. Aldermen McLaughlin, Niedergang, Rossetti, Lafuente, Heuston, McWatters, and Ballantyne also expressed their support.
